What it does
An AI Receptionist mainly works out who a caller needs and puts them through. The new AI Customer Service Agent goes a step further. It can:
- greet the caller and identify the issue
- ask one clarifying question at a time
- search the knowledge sources you give it, such as FAQs, policies, product guides and support documents
- give a short answer, or one to three practical steps
- transfer the call when the issue needs a person, or when the caller asks for one
When a person takes over, they see the caller's details in the web client and can read the call transcript, so the customer doesn't have to start again.
Where it fits
- First-line support: routine questions answered before they reach the queue.
- Busy periods: callers get help while your team is on other calls.
- After hours: useful answers outside your opening times.
- Specialist topics: particular questions go straight to the right person, queue or a more specialised AI agent.

Getting good answers
An AI agent is only as good as what it's given. 3CX recommends several focused agents rather than one that tries to cover everything. In practice, that looks like this:
- Start with your top 20 questions. Your call logs and support tickets will show what people ring about most.
- Write one short document per topic. Clear, single-topic guides are easier for the agent to search than a long manual.
- Decide what always goes to a person. For example complaints, billing disputes and anything that changes a customer's account.
- Test it with real calls before you switch it on, then read the transcripts in the first few weeks and fill the gaps.
What you need
The Customer Service Agent needs the 3CX AI Edition and arrives with V20 Update 10.
Infinitel can help you decide where an AI agent belongs in your call flow, prepare the knowledge it draws on and set up the handover to your team, so callers get a quick answer or the right person.
